Professor Judith Elkin, the recently retired Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Worcester, is our new Chair of Trustees.
Judith has always been interested in the arts and storytelling, since her early professional career as a children’s librarian in Birmingham in the 1960’s. After a career break, when she had two daughters, she moved to become a Senior Lecturer in Children’s Literature at the University of Central England in Birmingham, and progressed, over a 20 year period, to become Dean of the Faculty of Computing Information and English. She moved to University College Worcester in 2003, with a remit to achieve full University status.
Over the years, Judith has had considerable experience of chairing arts and cultural organisations, including Worcestershire Arts Partnership and the local Elgar Birthplace Trust. She is currently a Trustee of Malvern Theatres, and retains a close relationship with the University of Worcester, where she is an Emeritus Professor and President of the University College of Fellows.
Judith loves living in the centre of Worcester, where she can walk everywhere. Her key interests are her family and four grandchildren, visiting live performances of all kinds and travelling, particularly in Italy and Japan.
Dancefest is an organisation which she has known and held in high regard for many years. She now looks forward to working actively with its staff and performers.
